ATTRACTIONS

A view worth waking for: Sunrise Above Kundasang From Maragang Hill.

“Woke up at 4 AM for this view, and it was totally worth it! #MaragangMagic”

Not many people know that Maragang Hill isn’t just known for its sunrises; it’s also named after a rare monkey species called the Maragang (Maroon Leaf Monkey), which you might be lucky enough to spot if you’re hiking quietly. The hill is Malaysia’s highest community-managed nature reserve and serves as a “natural stairway” to Mount Kinabalu, offering breathtaking views of the country’s Eastern Plateau. If you hike early, the sky above is full of stars, and some hikers even catch a glimpse of the Milky Way. It’s not just a beautiful place, but also a significant one.

“Little New Zealand” of Borneo."

One of the coolest things about Kundasang is that it’s known as the “Little New Zealand” of Borneo – and once you see Desa Dairy Farm, you’ll get why! With green rolling hills, black-and-white cows, and chilly fresh air, it really feels like you’ve been transported overseas (minus the expensive flight).

The cows here are actually imported from New Zealand, and the milk and ice cream are super fresh straight from farm to cone! It’s the perfect spot for OOTD photos, scenic vibes, and of course, a yummy dairy treat while pretending you’re on a farm in NZ.
